If raised panel doors are what you want this router for look no farther. Soft Pine or Hard Rock Maple this baby wont even slow down. I used to take 3 passes with my 2 horse, now it is all hoged off in one pass. Love that speed control!! Kinda heavy for hand work, but on a router table its the best!!

I bought this to make tongue and groove flooring. The material is 3/4" Red Oak. I've cut about 1500 linear feet on the tongue side and of course the same amount on the groove side.

This router will cut it as fast as I can feed it, and never even gets warm. Extremely fine adjustment is possible with the large knob on he top. It's easy to drop the router motor out of the mounting assembly for easy change of bits.

It runs smoother and quieter than either of the other 2 routers I have at 10K rpm. I've not used it at the highest speed yet. I dialed it up to 13K to cut the tongue side, and it got louder, but was still better balanced than my other routers.

It only comes with 1/2" collett, no matter what you're told by salesman. I was told it came with both, but Milwaukee confirms that it's only sold with the 1/2" collett.

My husband was thrilled with this Router, he has been looking at this product for quite some time and when I saw it on Amazon.com for the price listed I too was excited. Could not touch this Router for under $500.00 in retail stores or on other websites. The price caught my eye, and it was a great Xmas gift.

Customer Buzz

I purchased this router to work on long, spruce aircraft spars. I have at least 4 other routers in my shop for various jobs but I needed one with more power, for hogging out deep areas of fine grain. This router did a great job. It is very smooth in starting up and spinning up to speed. The bit height adjustment is much easier and more accurate than my Porter-Cabell router that I had been using for this task. The handles remove, easily and quickly for using on pattern work. All around I would say this is an excellent tool.

Customer Buzz

I bought this router about a year and a half ago. It arrived with a 1/4 inch collet only. Had to reorder the 1/2 inch collet. I mounted it in a table for to make raised panel doors for a kitchen project that had 44 drawers and door fronts to be made from Lyptus. The router has good power and handled this job well. However, the above-table height adjustment mechanism would not raise the router after about one hour of use. I went to the local Milwaukee repair shop and they said they would have to send it to the factory for repair and it would take two weeks. Four weeks later I get the router back with the factory claiming there is nothing wrong with it and it is working as designed. In my opinion, the plastic parts of the raising mechanism are not able to raise the router motor if there is any additional friction between the base and the motor. So, when wood dust gets between the base and the motor it creates enough friction to disable the raising mechanism (lowering works fine). I don't think having to take the motor out of the base to wipe off the dust every fifth time I want to raise it is reasonable. I selected this model in large part because I would not have to buy a router lift. Looks like I may have to buy one anyway.

When I got near the end of the project I noticed the router squeaking at very low rpms upon shutdown. I took it apart and cleaned out the dust as best as I could but the squeak came back shortly afterward. Bearing going out? We'll see.

I recommend this router because it has the power to cut hardwoods with large diameter bits. Five year warranty is good too, but be aware your local repair shop will probably have to send it to the factory for service creating a very long down time. Don't buy this router for the "above the table" lift feature.

Customer Buzz

I was shopping for a Porter Cable 7518. I happened to run into the Milwaukee 5625-20 and it turns out to be a near clone of the PC, but with a few superior features. #1 is true variable speeds, rather than 5 speeds with the PC. #2 is a far superior system for raising and lowering the router in a router table. The PC 7518 motor screws up or down in a track that jams up with sawdust, while the height adjustment of the Milwaukee can be done above the table and the clamp is a lever, rather than a nasty, hard to operate screw. To change bits, I unlock the lever, push the screw release button and drop the motor out of the base. Add two substantial machined wrenches instead of the tacky stamped sheet steel wrenches that Porter Cable provides and you have a near perfect router for under table use.

My only complaint is the lack of dust control. By the time you've milled all the pieces for a frame and panel passage door you will be up to your ankles in sawdust.

Customer Buzz

Strong, powerhouse router that really works well in a table. I had one problem & that's the plastic catch that keeps the router from slipping on its' lift gear. It broke (under warranty) & it turns out that was a common problem. It was repaired & hopefully won't happen again. It does seem to me that a router that's touted to be as heavy duty as they're saying would not have that type of mickey mouse mechanical problem. One month to get it back from the repair station by the way.

Customer Buzz

Received ordered item quickly, installed in router table, operates with more than enough power, is quiet, smooth, sturdy. A great choice.

Customer Buzz

I selected this as a dedicated router table tool since neither of my two PC routers fit the bill, one not being variable speed, the other being a plunge mount which I do not trust in a router table. I find the Milwaukee smooth-starting, just the right heft with good handle control, and very amply powered. I'll probably pull it out of the table mounting plate whenever I resort to any heavy duty hand-held routing as well. One improvement Milwaukee could have made is to provide a longer shaft or travel within the mount so that bits could be changed from above the table...or at least provide off-set collet wrenches to reach below without having to lift the router/mount from the table to do so. Also, Amazon provides the unit only with the 1/2" collet, whereas both collets are included with the unit at a local tool store I frequent.

Customer Buzz

I bought the Milwaukee router for use as a dedicated table machine. I've mounted it with a woodpeckers lift and consider it a cadillac operation. The router gives plenty of power for all table operations, including raised panels and its controls/adjustments work well, something I can't say for the Hitachi I owned.

Like others, there was a problem with the on/off switch, but a replacemnt from the service center (under warrenty, at no charge) has taken care of that. You can tell just by the sound of the machine that it is one high quality unit.

Porter-cable 694vk 11 amp 1-3/4-horsepower plunge and fixed base variable speed router kit

Best Price Porter Cable 694VK. Free Shipping. Buy Now!.

Customer Buzz
I bought this for my husband he was a little disappointed expecting the router to be larger this one is a bit smaller than the types he is accustomed to using, but when he started using he was quite surprised at the power and capability of this unit so therefore all in all I would highly recommend this item well worth the money.

Customer Buzz
I now have four routers, including a very old, worn-out Sears 1 HP and three that I bought for my shop within the past few months: DeWalt DW618 multi-base 2-1/4 HP kit, a Triton 3-1/4 HP plunge router, and the Porter Cable 694VK multi-base 1-3/4 HP kit. All three of the new routers are absolutely super. The DeWalt is used only hand-held and it is smooth, powerful, and with the D-handle very easy to use. The Triton is used exclusively in a router table, a use for it where it really shines. And the PC 694 kit, which I bought for use in the shop at my vacation home, is light, adequately powered, and very easy to handle. Both the DeWalt and the Triton are very easy to change bits, where the PC unit is much more difficult, requiring two wrenches (The Triton and DeWalt machines have shaft locks). The PC router doesn't seem to release the bits very easily. I can't rate longevity on any of these. Maybe this time next year.

Customer Buzz
i was looking to buy a v/s router looked at the dewalt.{ i own the single speed router.}happy with that one. but i did not like the v/s switch and after looking at this unit i gave it a go. very glad i did. you can rotate the speed knob easily.

Customer Buzz
I have had my PC router plunge/fixed base router kit for about 5 years, and have used it quite a bit. The PC 690 series are very good routers that are very durable and have been around for many years. The PC 690 was the router by which all other routers of similar power were judged. If you buy a PC 690 series router, you will have a very good router - however, you may find yourself wishing that you bought a different, more modern router for about the same amount of money.

As the years have passed, other routers have appeared on the market that are good routers with more modern features (above table bit changes / height adjustment, easier base changes, etc.) A few years ago, Porter Cable came out with a new and improved line of routers, the 890 series - that was obviously inspired by the 690 series.

If I were looking for a new plunge/fixed base router kit today, I would buy the 890 series - the 690 series is still very good, just dated.

Customer Buzz
PC seems to set the standard in routers and I can see why. Lightweight for easy handling, plenty of power (for a handheld) and the soft start is a big plus when hand holding. Setup for plunge cuts is easy.

Customer Buzz
Router works fine. The only caveat is that these are now made in Mexico. Porter Cable 690-series routers were among the last American-made power tools of which I was aware, and that was in large part why I bought this kit.

But, since all the other brands are now made overseas, I guess it really doesn't matter. I would still get this model; it has just lost some serious bonus points.

Customer Buzz
Great router for it's designed purpose, easy to use.

Customer Buzz
This router kit is a great value--but the plunge base leaves a great deal to be desired in terms of quality. I decided on going with the P/C because of their router tradition--probably the most pedigreed of any major manufacturer. The 690 is the standard, and it can be found anywhere and everywhere. The reason is seems to be: 1) its slow evolution (there haven't been to many drastic technical/design changes in the long make of this basic tool) which makes it easy for companies, even PC competitors to standardize around this model; and 2) a simple, extremely well built motor and housing-I've never seen an example of one ever dying--(cords come and go, brushes need replacing once in a blue moon, but the motor doesn't die).

That said this particular model definitely shows its age in comparison to others. The quality is still excellent, probably still best in its class, but some of the refinements in terms of ergonomics, and general fit and finish now becoming standard on the most recent generation of mid-size routers are missing. The lines where the cast aluminum base was removed from its 2-part mold are very visible. The gray enamel paint job seems somewhat indifferent as does the haphazardly applied "porter-cable" sticker (if you're casting the base why not have the brand name in the mold?). There isn't a spindle lock which is a definite drawback: fumbling with two wrenches is inconvenient and would be a nightmare if the router didn't have its trademark "flat top". The plunge action on the plunge base isn't all that smooth. The black plastic case is fairly cheap and baffling in its layout--I can never figure out where to put the bundled up cord. The extra rubber reinforcement where the cord enters the housing (where cords flex most and thus break most) doesn't seem to be as tough as the older steel coil. The variable speed dial--an excellent feature--always seems to slip into lower speeds (vibration?) which means you constantly have to check it: this could be potentially remedied by going with its big 3hp brother's positive speed selection switch. All in all, while I can't necessarily call any of this "poor quality" and certainly doesn't reflect on the terrific performance of this router, it certainly doesn't reflect well on P/C which doesn't seem committed to meaningfully updating an otherwise solidly designed tool for the 21st century.

The 1.75hp motor I have found completely adequate, overly so in many cases. The weight, while heavier than some comparable models is not nearly as heavy as some others. The soft start works great and the bit depth adjustment on the fixed base, a simple corkscrew, is a great example of simplicity being the best, most effective approach. The generally basic, simple approach of this tool--an admirable approach for P/C which still produces the incredibly rugged worm gear driven circ. saw, jig saw, and belt sander--would be a benefit except, many of the "improvements" introduced in the course of router evolution by other companies, and apparently ignored here by P/C are genuine improvements that ought to be mandatory.

The Bosch 2.25hp with the wooden handles and the Milwaukee with the rubber gripped housing are both extremely nice options I wish I had considered more seriously--especially the Bosch (although removing the fixed base from the motor is really tough). Both of these seem built to higher standards, at least superficially, and both are a pleasure to use. Unfortunately, neither manufacturer has the long router legacy that P/C still has; a legacy P/C may not perpetuate much longer without a serious commitment. I have yet to use their new 2.25hp models, which look great in catalogs and probably are excellent--but I can't help but feel as though in releasing a totally new router they've neglected to perfect the already fantastic one they've been producing for decades. Nonetheless it remains the standard router--almost all router accessories are designed for this model: edge guides, sub bases, table base plates, etc. All in all a good router at a reasonable price.

Customer Buzz
As my first router experience, it has worked great for me. The varible speed is good to have. I have done a few little jobs all without any trouble. Also bought the table which worked great as well. High quality build and easy to use, does not have spindle lock and requires two included wrenches to replace bits, but it's not like you do this often. Overall great product, and price.

Customer Buzz
Found this combo on clearance for $130 at Lowes 1 year ago and couldn't pass it up. Never used one before but in no time I am up and running making nice edges with minimal effort! No complaints!

Customer Buzz
this machine is a nightmare. i recieved mine about a year ago and it has been in the shop several times each to the tune of $100 or more. everything has gone out on it, the warranty is a joke. i still have not completed an entire design without it churping at me that the design transmission has been interrupted and cannot resume. go with the brother brand. afforable and reliable.

Customer Buzz
This is the 3rd Singer machine that has been nothing but an expensive nightmare. The first Singer sewing machine never once sewed a seam, the dealer made one excuse after another. So I paid someone else to investigate the problem and he found coke caps, chewed off fingernails and assorted other trash in the motor compartment of the machine.I took it back and bought a Janhome and I will never regret it. Machine #2 was a serger. No matter what, it would not stay threaded, or the thread would tangle in masses at the lower looper. This went on for weeks, again it was brand spanking new and had demonstrated beautifully in the store. I returned it and bought a Janhome and didn't regret that either. Then after being Singer-Burned twice, like an idiot I bought this Singer embroidery machine. Again, problem after problem after problem, from thread not running smoothly both top and bobbin, to softwear miscommunication, to it just ceasing to sew for no reason out of the blue. I returned it, I bought a Janhome that was reduced in price as it had been used in classes in a fabric store and it does a flawless job every single time I turn it on. My friend returned her Futura and bought a Brother product that she is happy with. Singer needs to catch a clue about what they are letting slip by quality control. Far too many machines are getting sold that should never have left the factory. I vow to all things holy I will never purchase another Singer product, and I will be ever so grateful for my Janhome machines that never let me down, never cause me a moment's frustration or buyer's regret.

Customer Buzz
This machine sucks..big time. I should've read some of these reveiws before I bought it.I've owned it for almost 18 months and have had problems with it but for maybe 6 months. The bobbin case is very defective...there is a replacement part that I was never notified about when I bought it brand new. I spent money in 3 bobbin holders before I was told to buy the replacement part that was impossible to replace on my own since the screw was too tight. I was told by Singer reps to buy expensive Silky thread and bobbins. This machine was shipped back to the warranty center and they jipped me...it came back just as broken as I sent it. Now they're issuing me an second extended warranty letter to send it to another warranty center. I oretty much am going to get another machine. I make embroidered tops for the Summer and this has cost me alot of sales cause I can't make anything embroidered.

Invest in a more expensive machine. This is an over-priced sewing machine.

Customer Buzz
I bought this machine two years ago. At the time, it was $800 (no, I didn't buy it from Amazon).
I have never been able to use the embroidery feature. Set-up is VERY involved. Once set up, I was unable to figure out how to download the design into the machine, so that feature is a bust.
As far as sewing, I like the one step buttonhole foot. I DON'T like that the needle down feature has to be tapped every time you stop the machine, so that feature is a bust.
The zig-zag feature is not adjustable. I am forced to sew with a wide zig-zag.
I use the machine for general sewing, but I really don't like it.

Customer Buzz
The main difference between all the folks who had problems with this machine and the 3000+ folks that belong to the futuraembroidery group on Yahoo is joining that group. I knew nothing about embroidery but when I saw the price of the Singer Futura I thought that I would try it. I had done hand embroidery and machine sewing but machine embroidery is a totally different skill. Add the challenge of installing and running the software and you definitely need some hand holding. The futuraembroidery group was exactly what I needed to help get me started and now I am confident that I can embroider just about anything. Buy a Futura, find that group and I guarantee you'll be embroidering all your Christmas gifts in no time.

Customer Buzz
I have had a blast with this machine since it came out of the box! It is remarkably easy to use and the results have been wonderful.

Customer Buzz
If you have Windows XP, you had better have all Windows Updates installed on your PC. The software is very much outdated and old looking.

This machine is very picky too.

Make sure you get the right sized embroidery needles because the needles that came with mine were regular sewing needles and I broke them all in one night. I am using Schmetz Embroidery Needles and so far I have not broken one at all.

The next night I went to Walmart and Joanne Fabrics and neither one of them carry the Singer Chromium Needles the DVD suggests. In a nutshell, you will be frustrated trying to find notions for it.

I had to install and reinstall the software about 8 times and I work on PCs everyday. I also found out that the USB cord that came with it was no good for my PC - Windows XP did not recognize it - I had to use one of my other USB cords (good thing I have backup cords around).

Also, you have to put the disk in everytime you use the machine. I had to install the software before I connected the machine and after before I could get it to work.

Now that I have it working I love it.

Once it told me to check my bobbin while I was in the middle of a design, well, I am new at this and unhooked the hoop from the machine and guess what? The bobbin was fine! The design was ruined. I don't know if I could have restarted it to finish the design, I have only had it for 7 days.

All in all, I like this machine when it is working. It is great for the price, but the software should be updated.

Oh, if you are low on funds, get ready to pay dearly for stablilizers, needles, and good thread. If you use cheap thread, your needles will break. The polyester embroidery thread looks great and is sturdier than the cheap stuff.

You will also need the AutoPunch Digitizing Software if you plan on doing your own designs and this software is not cheap at all. I ordered it and hope to have it soon so I can see how it works with XP.

Customer Buzz
I had the CE100 for all of 3 days and it was just awful, I ended up exchanging it for the CE200 (so glad I did) The CE100, has some problems, first off, it doesn't sew, and considering this IS a sewing machine I find this to be a big problem!! The bobbin thread will not lock your stitches, and on top of that the top thread breaks like every 4 stitches. And for those of you wondering I have sewn for over 15 years and believe me I called customer service, and they told me that the CE100 series has a problem with the bobbin casing cracking. Well call me crazy but why are they still selling the dumb thing then?? Seriously, I spent 3 very long days doing nothing but being upset, angry, and aggervated, not to mention saying ugly words and making up new ones when those didn't work:-) Save yourself from what I went through, just spend the extra money and get the CE200, once you get it and figure it out , it can be addictive! Good luck and happy sewing!!

Customer Buzz
My husband bought this for me a year ago, I had never used an embroidery machine before. I was kind of scared about having to learn the new technology. I flipped through the manual for about 30 minutes and then got started, it worked easily and effortlessly. I use the software to digitize clipart and drawings that I scan into the computer, it is so much fun! Family members and friends are always so impressed when they see what I make. I'm going to a wedding in a month and I plan on monogramming some towels as a present.

I've never had any problem with the bobbin or software. However, sometimes if I cancel the embroidery transmission halfway through, the machine will start flashing and I wont be able to start a new project until I unplug the USB, turn off the machine, and restart my computer. But that only happens very rarely. Also, when I first got the machine I had trouble with thread breakage because I had unknowingly bought very poor quality rayon thread. I now use good quality polyester and the thread never breaks anymore. I recommend this machine!

Customer Buzz
These machines are awesome and powerful, but were getting poor reviews when they debuted in 2005 because of a bobbin problem and a software problem. Singer has moved to fix both problems. Newer stock of machines have a much-improved bobbin cover, which eliminates the problem of the bobbin getting progressively worse. A new version of the software has no known problems. You can update your software at their website, or call customer service to get the problem fixed. I have found their customer service to be first rate. Poke around the website for tons more information than is in the books that come with it.

For a long time, embroidery machines were sort of the gift for the person who has everything. You had to be pretty rich to own one. It takes a lot of computer power to translate a pixel to a stitch, and embroidery machines were incredibly expensive, and subject to all kinds of problems. NOT a good financial investment for those of us with other claims on our cash; therefore, the machines were largely in the hands of older, more financially well-off individuals, and the designs available for them tended to be cutesy and trite. Singer has done the most brilliant thing by enabling us to put the computers we already OWN to work running the embroidery machine. You just hook this up to your laptop, and you can convert any file format to run on your machine. It has taken all the barriers to designing away with the (optional on the CE-100, included on the CE-200)Auto-Punch software, which enables you to convert any .bmp or .jpeg or .wmf or just about any little image file and turn it into an embroidery design. There is literally no limit to what you can do with it. And the stitch quality is excellent. Think about it--your kids can draw a picture, and you can turn it into an embroidery design! The mind reels!

Singer is to be congratulated on making machine embroidery accessible to the masses. This is truly a breakthrough for creative people everywhere.
