soleus air cfm-40 e 40-pint dehumidifier with humidistat

Product Description

The first portable dehumidifier on the market, weighing less than half that of other models. It has built-in wheels and a carrying handle, allowing it to be transported with little effort. With 40 pint large capacity front removable water bucket.

Customer Buzz
We purchased the Soleus CFM-40 E dehumidifier just over a year ago and it has stopped working and is out of warranty. My husband called Soleus and was told that it could be repaired at the rate of $45/hour, plus shipped to and from the repair center. That is unacceptable. A $200 dehumidifer should last more than 13 months. We are junking the machine and DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT.

Customer Buzz
I bought this unit last summer and used it to knock the relative humidity down to 50% when things got too muggy in the home. I must say that the unit worked well at extracting water from the air and did so silently, a nice feature when sleeping. But alas! I took the unit out last night to help painted rooms dry faster and then checked the bucket this morning only to find it bone dry! Broken, a unit that now only consumes electricity and blows air around. I get so annoyed that companies can build refrigerators that last 15 years but this product dies after only one year. I'm convinced this unit is manufactured as a throw away product in our disposable-obsessed culture.

Customer Buzz
The dehumidifier stopped working after one year and 15 days when it was out of warranty. They are not build to last.

Customer Buzz
When I saw 322 reviews for Soleus I immediately decided it must be the best. But I tend to be suspicious of products that cut silly corners such as not providing a threaded connection for a hose. So I started reading more carefully and then I discovered the guy with only 6 reviews might indeed be better. Following the herd isn't always the best way to go. But the Soleus seems like it must deserve at least 3 stars. The question is whether the Frigidaire deserves more attention. I suggest you read this, look carefully and the pros and cons of both and then decide.

These people who complain about noise apparently haven't tried my not so old Kenmore. I bought a Kenmore dehumidifier about 3 years ago and you'd think they designed it to make noise. Sometimes it wined. Sometimes rattled. Sometimes it sounded like it was grinding metal. Thank heavens it finally died. So I started reading reviews of humidifiers here, at [...] and other places. I noticed that the Soleus has by far the most reviews on Amazon, dwarfing the Frigidaire in numbers. And the Soleus is consistently praised for being quiet. That would be very important if you're going to run a dehumidifier in your living space. But, in the basement where most people put their humidifiers they just need to be quiet enough so you don't hear an intrusive level of noise through the walls and floor. The Frigidaire meets that requirement easily. On low I can't hear it at all in our living space. But I also suspect that the Frigidaire moves a lot more air on low than the Soleus. The Soleus was criticized for taking a long time to dehumidify. In fact the Frigidaire moves so much air on the low setting that you could use it as an emergency hair dryer by sitting it up on a table using the handy fold down handle on its top. You could also set it next to your drip-dry rack and hurry up the drying of those things you don't want to put in the regular dryer.

If you read these reviews of the Soleus carefully you'll find reports that some people think getting one that works properly is sort of a crapshoot. And some said that if there is a problem the customer service for the Soleus isn't that great. I didn't read anything like that about the Frigidaire. I also tend to be suspicious of products that cut corners. So, when I read that the Soleus doesn't provide threads for connecting a hose onto the water output. Duh! I said to myself, "No way!" Seems like a no-brainer to me. But maybe not providing threads saves a half dollar on the production. Anyway, after reading all those little snipes I decided that, even though the Frigidaire only got 6 reviews to the Soleus' 323 or whatever, I'd look around and see what other sights were saying about the Frigidaire. I found one sight that rated it as the best of the humidifiers. What I didn't find was anyone saying theirs stopped working after a month and a half. So I went out and bought one for myself.

After opening it up, screwing in the hose, plugging it in and pushing the 'ON" button, which took all of 3 minutes, I have come to the conclusion that if the Frigidaire just came with a video processor, a logic chip, voice capability and a means of propelling itself I might develop an affection for it. I might do so anyway. So far anyway Frigi's breath is pleasant enough. See, I've already given her a name. She's actually quite beautiful as compared for example to R2 D2. I think R2 D2 would definitely have fallen in love at first sight. As for me? As much as I'd like to just sit and look at Frigi, I am a married man and therefore feel obliged to limit such indulgences.

Customer Buzz
Bought two of these units two years ago. Worked well until the warranty expired. Then the first compressor quit, and six months later, the second unit quit. Don't buy these units based on the raves on quietness. My two units and those bought by others simply did not last.

Customer Buzz
It worked great for the first year and a half. It isn't quite as effective at dehumidifying as some units, and its settings are a bit limited, but it is very quiet compared to other units I've used.

Unfortunately after a year and a half it pretty much stopped dehumidifying... the fan runs and it pulls a tiny bit of moisture out, but at a rate an order of magnitude slower than it used to...

Reading other reviews, this is a fairly frequent occurrence.

4 stars if it is working, 1 star since it doesn't keep working.

Customer Buzz
The unit is great, but if something goes wrong, forget it. I bought mine from Amazon. It arrived with a defect. I contacted Soleus via their website and got no reply. I left a msg on their voice mail (they are West Coast so don't open until late Central time). Never heard from them. Finally called in the middle of the day only to be told that I would have to pay to have it shipped back to them. Still waiting to hear from a supervisor and now looking for the President's name and address to write a letter of disgust. Is this really any way to run a company?

Customer Buzz
My Soleus is less than 2 years old. The compressor locked up when I turned it on a couple days ago. Basically, that means it's totaled. Searching the web, I find this has happened to many people. They last for a year, 2 or 3 and then they lock up. The one year warrenty is no help. They're a great unit when they work, but my old GE costs a lot less and lasted 2x as long. I'm looking for new one but won't be considering a Soleus

Customer Buzz
The dehumidifier ceased to work properly after a month. The compressor would not turn on and it would not remove any water from the air.
Attempts to contact customer support have gone unanswered.
These items have a very high failure rate.
AVOID purchasing any Soleus products.

Customer Buzz
I just received this dehumidifier and I can't believe how quiet it is! I have a Whirlpool at work and it is so loud I can't even talk over it. We'll see how well it works in a few hours--it is very hot and humid today.

zojirushi ns-zcc18 10-cup neuro fuzzy rice cooker and warmer, premium white

Product Description

zojirushi's NS-ZCC18 Neuro Fuzzy Rice Cooker and Warmer has advanced Neuro Fuzzy logic technology and a spherical pan and heating system. This rice cooker prepares perfect rice every time.

Customer Buzz
I love this rice cooker. I have used it to make small and large batches of rice. Every batch comes out perfect; every single grain is cooked perfectly. When the rice is done the Neuro Fuzzy goes into warming mode, which keeps your rice perfect and ready to serve for up to 12 hours. It has settings for white rice, brown rice, sushi rice, and others. Don't waste your money on cheep cookers or microwave cookers, those don't come close to the quality of the Neuro Fuzzy. I could continue to say how great the rice is when cooked in this product but really you won't know until you try it. It's worth every penny. My only warning about this product is that it is cute. It looks cute and makes cute chime melodies when it starts cooking and when it is done (not everyone is impressed with cute kitchen appliances. I personally love the melodies.). I also recommend you protect your Neuro Fuzzy Rice Cooker with a serge protector.

Customer Buzz
I love this rice cooker. I had an inexpencive rice cooker that we had been using the last 9 years. My husband acidentlly dropped it and we decided to replace it with a really nice one because it had become an esentual kitchen appliance for us. We decided to replace it with this rice cooker. I am so we did.

The things I love about this rice cooker:

When you start it it plays twinkle twinlke little star (my daughter who's two loves it) and when it ends it plays another song

It has a timer where you can set it to finish cooking when you want dinner. I put all of my ingredients in and set the timer for when I get home from work. It starts cooking about 45 minutes before the time you set and then it's ready and waiting for you. Unlike a slow cooker, it's not cooking all day. That's important because I am normally gone more than 8 hours each day and stuff gets over cooked in the slow cooker when I leave it.

All the different rice settings. I love the porrage cycle.

Customer Buzz
I bought this on the recommendation of a friend and I'm not at all sorry. I keep it on the counter and it does take up a good chunk of space, but it's worked so well, I'm good with the space issue. I had a bottom-range rice cooker before this one and it was ok as long as you ate the rice immediately. This one keeps rice warm for a very long time without overcooking the bits touching the pan. I'm looking forward to trying to make soup in it.

Customer Buzz
In Hawaii, many of us eat rice every day, so most of us have rice cookers on our kitchen counters. I'd been wanting a "fuzzy logic" cooker for a long time, but my old-fashioned, bridal-shower-era aluminum cooker took its sweet time easing into retirement. When it was time to say farewell, I'd narrowed my choices to the higher-end Zojirushi line.

My sturdy Zojirushi was worth the wait! Rice comes out dependably, every time. White rice. Jasmine rice for curries. Mixed brown and white or wild rice and brown or white. Never overcooked; never crunchy. There are multiple settings to accommodate all kinds of combinations -- "reg/sushi" is best for everyday, and hit the "pre-washed" button if you've washed the rice grains. The others are self-explanatory with one possible exception, sweet, which is probably not a common choice. A steam vent up top keeps the rice from getting overly sticky, and the included rice paddle may look like it has measles but it's designed to keep the rice from sticking.

I'm a gadget geek, so the computer melodies that indicate the start and end of cooking make me smile every time I hear them, and sometimes that's twice a day (I do love my rice). The warming function seems to work well, keeping the rice quite hot without drying it out, but for best flavor you would want to eat the rice within 30-60 minutes.

The non-stick coating truly is ... no more soaking the aluminum pot in cold water to get the "goo" off. Instead, a quick hand-wash with hot soapy water is all the bowl and the detachable cover liner need. As to the measuring cup, as one person noted, it's not exactly a dry measure 1c. I keep it in my rice tub, scoop out however much I want to prepare, wash it in the sink (old habits die hard) and then use the knuckle measure technique to add water. Basically, no matter how big/small your hands or the dimension of the cooker, rest your pointer finger barely touching the top of the rice; the water level should hit your first knuckle. I boost this a bit for brown and wild rice.

This cooker has given our family more than 3 years of faithful service so far, and my eye hasn't wandered.

Customer Buzz
I bought my 10-cup Zojirushi two and a half years ago, and have used it on average three times a week ever since. It's been pretty great, but at this point the teflon on the bowl is completely shot and must be replaced (note that I've used the plastic paddle almost exclusively and have never scratched the bowl with a metal utensil). A replacement bowl is about fifty bucks, so be aware that even if you tenderly wash it by hand, it has a life-span of about two years.

Customer Buzz
When three family members were diagnosed with celiac disease (severe wheat allergy), we started eating a lot more rice. I'm not the best cook, so I found it a real pain to make rice in a pot. This rice cooker has been a life saver. Every batch of rice has turned out perfect. I've also made rice pudding, rice cereal, and tapioca pudding. It's very easy to clean--unless I've made a porridge type dish I usually just rinse and wipe. The only problem I've had was that I lost the measuring cups that came with it, so I had to figure out the equivalent in standard cups. If you buy any rice cooker I would also recommend you get The Ultimate Rice Cooker Cookbook : 250 No-Fail Recipes for Pilafs, Risottos, Polenta, Chilis, Soups, Porridges, Puddings and More, from Start to Finish in Your Rice Cooker for lots of great recipes to make in your rice cooker.

Customer Buzz
I purchased the 10-cup Neuro Fuzzy rice cooker as a Christmas present for my wife...because she ASKED for it. Well, she has never been able to cook a decent pot of rice before and after my extended stay in Japan, she was curious to see what the difference was. This cooker is dead simple to use and makes the most perfect sticky rice for onigiri every time.

All you have to do is add your rice, your water, close the lid and turn it on (or set the timer). I wake up to sticky rice every morning. A couple of handfuls of rice with some fish/seasoning and I am out the door. It was a very worthwhile purchase and worth the pricetag.

Customer Buzz
Our family eats rice everyday and we rely on a good rice cooker. My parents have a thing about having their electronics being made in Japan, especially my dad since he's used to repair a lot of them. Our past rice cookers all have been Japanese, and have lasted more than 10 years. I bought this one because of it's many cooking options for different types of rice. The rice cooks evenly and just makes dinner great every night! Amazon has great service and it didn't take long to ship. I would highly recommend purchasing this from Amazon.

Customer Buzz
Having tried other more "simple" rice cookers in the past that burned the rice and never got it quite right, this has been a blessiing. After trying it out with our favorite rice Alter Eco Fair Trade Thai Rice, 1-Pound Boxes (Pack of 8), we have bought another for other family members for Christmas. Found it rather easy to use.

Customer Buzz
I have never had a problems with this rice cooker. I have used it for at least once a week for over 3 years and it's been flawless It's amazing how I will keep rice warm for hours and not dry it out. The inner bowl has never chipped, but I do wash it by hand and I would not recommend putting it in the dishwasher. The rice comes out perfect every time as well as steel cut oatmeal. It does get a little messy making oatmeal in the unit. It will crud up with oatmeal through the steam vent. It takes a little time to clean, you do have to take off the inner lid on top of the unit. It weren't for the cleaning and the price I would have given it a perfect score.

Customer Buzz
I bought this vacuum during the after-Christmas sale and it has been a fantastic vacuum! I replaced a Kenmore upright that I had for about 12 years. I really like the Dyson's suction and the ball has been great for getting around in tight spaces that I used to have to literally pick up my old vacuum to get into. I also like the layout of the accessories and detachable hand held.

Very well done!

Dyson DC25 Ball All-Floors Upright Vacuum Cleaner

The Dyson Ball Vacuum cleaner is the best cleaner I have ever used in my 79 years, It is lightweight, very easy to empty, rolls every where and gets all surfaces clean. The only problem was that the assembly instructions were not for dummies but with a little imagination it goes together fairly easily without any tools.

Customer Buzz
When I was reading reviews the thing people said about the Dyson ball was that it was messy to empty the filter. Not at all! You push a button and the bottom opens up and all the dust falls out! If you've ever had a cheaper bagless vacuum you will understand. You have to tip them over and all the dust falls on your hand. Not the case here. People also said if you are tall the vacuum is too short. I guess I'd have to agree, but since I'm 5'8" its fine for me. My sister at 6'2" disagrees. The dyson is super light, very quiet and has great suction! Totally worth $400!! Especially if you like clean carpet.

Customer Buzz
I read many reviews on this site and others before purchasing this vaccum. It was everything it said it was. I have 5 cats and a dog, so I needed something with super suction.

-Light weight
-Easy to switch from floor cleaning to crevice and high cleaning. (I have high ceilings and was impressed that this allowed me to get very high up without the need for a step ladder! Yay!)
-Although I had to empty it half way in my job of vaccuming a single room, it was because it picked up so much stuff previous vaccums had left behind.

Very impressed with this vacuum even if it is a bit on the pricey side. In this case, quality is excellent for the money!

Customer Buzz
We were very happy to find this on Amazon for almost $100 cheaper than it is most other places. We're glad because the extra $100 may not have been worth it.

This vacuum does have very good suction, particularly noticeable when using the hose, which is both a good thing and a bad. The suction helps to pick up a lot of things in hard to reach places, but it also has the effect of pulling the hose back. This results in limited hose extension unless the vacuum is blocked by something, since pulling the hose farther than 5 feet will cause the vacuum to either tip over or slide across the floor. This doesn't matter for stairs, since the force is mainly up and the vacuum is held by the bottom step.

The clear bin is nice, but slightly flimsy. It got a long crack in it after one day of use, but that doesn't seem to affect performance.

The advertisement that it doesn't lose suction is true, but bagged vacuums wouldn't lose suction either if you only filled the bag with the relatively small amount of dust the bin on the DC25 holds. The small bin, though, has more to do with the relatively compact size of the DC25 than poor design.

The cyclone assembly has the habit of holding a lot of fine dust inside of it, which is probably an essential part of the vacuum's design. It builds up quite quickly; upon blowing it out after a week of use, I was promptly covered in dust from head to toe. Apparently, though, it does a good job of keeping a large part of the dust from getting to the first filter.

The ball does help maneuverability, although it takes a little bit of practice to get used to.

Overall, this appears to be a very good vacuum, but I would not recommend it for heavy duty use.

Customer Buzz
What else can I say? It's much lighter than out previous vac. It's easy to handle and maneuver.

Customer Buzz
I bought this vacuum because my previous one died. This was the best decision I've ever made. The suction and movement of this vacuum is phenomenal. The container is small due to the ball, but I think it's better this way so that I empty it often to prevent any possibilities of possible clogging, even though I know it shouldn't clog. This model is slimmer and less bulky to allow me to vacuum in between small spaces and low areas, such as under the couch.

Customer Buzz
This dyson works great, it has great suction and can pick up anything. It is heaver than I expected, definately not lightweight. The cord isn't very long, wish it was longer. Overall I would recommend it because it works so good.

Customer Buzz
This is by far the best vacuum I have ever had and am awestruck at what comes out of my floors. I don't know how I survived without one till now.
Shipping speed was excellent as well and customer response from Dyson was quick & professional.

Customer Buzz
My husband and I bought this vacuum after our cheap Bissell just wasn't getting the job done. I read a lot of reviews and carefully chose this vacuum and I'm very happy with our purchase. Our Bissell hardly did anything, I never felt like my floors were ever clean when I was done vacuuming, I felt like I was just wasting my time. This vaccuum made me very happy, though, the first few times I vacuumed! I had to empty the cannister several times the first time vacuuming our house, and I had just used the Bissell the day before. After the first few times, you won't have the empty the cannister nearly as often, I only empty it every few times now. It's the initial vacuuming that fills it up!

What I love about this vacuum:
- It is sooo easy to manuever! I can hold my toddler son on one hip and vaccum with my other hand if I have to! It's really effortless and honestly, fun! I love the ball technology on this vacuum, I don't think I can ever go back to a "normal" vacuum again!
- It REALLY gets your floors clean! I never find anything in my carpet after vaccuming, and my floors look and smell better.
- You can use it on hard floors, too. There's a button to turn off the rotating brush action so that you can vaccum hard floors as well. I LOVE this function, and I use the vacuum to clean my laminate floors often. It saves pushing dirt around with a broom!
- It has edge cleaning, which is wonderful, and eliminates having to pull out the extension tools often. With my Bissell, I was continually pulling out my extension tools to clean the edges of my room and around my couch, etc. With the ball and the edge cleaning combined, I rarely pull out my tools, as the vaccuum gets right up against the wall and gets all my carpet clean.
- The cannister is super easy to empty, just pop off the cannister, hold it into a trash can, and push the release button and shake. I have had to take a paper towel and wipe the inside of the cannister a few times, as dust sometimes builds up inside and the cannister and won't shake out easily.
- It's so much quieter than my other vaccum! My Bissell sounded like a plane coming in for landing, and my toddler son was terrified of it! It took him just a few times to get used to this vaccum and now he "pushes it around the house," pretending to vacuum :0)
- It really feels sturdy. I was nervous paying this much for a vaccum and was terrified it would break, but it's surprisingly solid! It feels like it will last a long time.

What I don't like:
- You can't vacuum up fine powder, like flour or floor cleaning powders. This is frustrating for me, as I was using a deep clean powder on my floors before purchasing this vacuum. Dyson told me, though, that fine powder can clog up the filters, causing problems with sunction and/or shortening the life of the vacuum. So no more deep clean powders for me. I bought a deep cleaner instead, and it works great. Dyson does sell a product called Zorb that you sprinkle on your powder and then vaccum up, but I wasn't happy with the reviews I read of the product. <http://www.amazon.com/Dyson-Zorb-Carpet-Maintenance-Powder/dp/B00062MT88/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1243011548&sr=8-1>
- Dyson doesn't explain how to take the cannister apart to occasionally clean it. I had a lot of dust build up inside the cannister walls and hate seeing it in there. I figured out how to easily take the cannister apart, it's actually made to come apart, but Dyson doesn't tell you how to do it. You have to figure that out on your own.
- For me, the directions on how to assemble the vaccuum were a little frustrating. They don't really explain anything, they only have pictures. I'm a person who puts things together by reading instructions, not looking at pictures, but thankfully, my husband is a picture guy, and we got it together fine.

Bottom line: This vaccum is amazing and I would recommend it to anyone. We've told all our family and friends about it and I'm so glad we spent the extra bucks to get a really quality vacuum. Our house is a lot cleaner now that we've made this purchase!
