I bought this vacuum during the after-Christmas sale and it has been a fantastic vacuum! I replaced a Kenmore upright that I had for about 12 years. I really like the Dyson's suction and the ball has been great for getting around in tight spaces that I used to have to literally pick up my old vacuum to get into. I also like the layout of the accessories and detachable hand held.
Very well done!
Dyson DC25 Ball All-Floors Upright Vacuum Cleaner
The Dyson Ball Vacuum cleaner is the best cleaner I have ever used in my 79 years, It is lightweight, very easy to empty, rolls every where and gets all surfaces clean. The only problem was that the assembly instructions were not for dummies but with a little imagination it goes together fairly easily without any tools.
When I was reading reviews the thing people said about the Dyson ball was that it was messy to empty the filter. Not at all! You push a button and the bottom opens up and all the dust falls out! If you've ever had a cheaper bagless vacuum you will understand. You have to tip them over and all the dust falls on your hand. Not the case here. People also said if you are tall the vacuum is too short. I guess I'd have to agree, but since I'm 5'8" its fine for me. My sister at 6'2" disagrees. The dyson is super light, very quiet and has great suction! Totally worth $400!! Especially if you like clean carpet.
I read many reviews on this site and others before purchasing this vaccum. It was everything it said it was. I have 5 cats and a dog, so I needed something with super suction.
-Light weight
-Easy to switch from floor cleaning to crevice and high cleaning. (I have high ceilings and was impressed that this allowed me to get very high up without the need for a step ladder! Yay!)
-Although I had to empty it half way in my job of vaccuming a single room, it was because it picked up so much stuff previous vaccums had left behind.
Very impressed with this vacuum even if it is a bit on the pricey side. In this case, quality is excellent for the money!
We were very happy to find this on Amazon for almost $100 cheaper than it is most other places. We're glad because the extra $100 may not have been worth it.
This vacuum does have very good suction, particularly noticeable when using the hose, which is both a good thing and a bad. The suction helps to pick up a lot of things in hard to reach places, but it also has the effect of pulling the hose back. This results in limited hose extension unless the vacuum is blocked by something, since pulling the hose farther than 5 feet will cause the vacuum to either tip over or slide across the floor. This doesn't matter for stairs, since the force is mainly up and the vacuum is held by the bottom step.
The clear bin is nice, but slightly flimsy. It got a long crack in it after one day of use, but that doesn't seem to affect performance.
The advertisement that it doesn't lose suction is true, but bagged vacuums wouldn't lose suction either if you only filled the bag with the relatively small amount of dust the bin on the DC25 holds. The small bin, though, has more to do with the relatively compact size of the DC25 than poor design.
The cyclone assembly has the habit of holding a lot of fine dust inside of it, which is probably an essential part of the vacuum's design. It builds up quite quickly; upon blowing it out after a week of use, I was promptly covered in dust from head to toe. Apparently, though, it does a good job of keeping a large part of the dust from getting to the first filter.
The ball does help maneuverability, although it takes a little bit of practice to get used to.
Overall, this appears to be a very good vacuum, but I would not recommend it for heavy duty use.
What else can I say? It's much lighter than out previous vac. It's easy to handle and maneuver.
I bought this vacuum because my previous one died. This was the best decision I've ever made. The suction and movement of this vacuum is phenomenal. The container is small due to the ball, but I think it's better this way so that I empty it often to prevent any possibilities of possible clogging, even though I know it shouldn't clog. This model is slimmer and less bulky to allow me to vacuum in between small spaces and low areas, such as under the couch.
This dyson works great, it has great suction and can pick up anything. It is heaver than I expected, definately not lightweight. The cord isn't very long, wish it was longer. Overall I would recommend it because it works so good.
This is by far the best vacuum I have ever had and am awestruck at what comes out of my floors. I don't know how I survived without one till now.
Shipping speed was excellent as well and customer response from Dyson was quick & professional.
My husband and I bought this vacuum after our cheap Bissell just wasn't getting the job done. I read a lot of reviews and carefully chose this vacuum and I'm very happy with our purchase. Our Bissell hardly did anything, I never felt like my floors were ever clean when I was done vacuuming, I felt like I was just wasting my time. This vaccuum made me very happy, though, the first few times I vacuumed! I had to empty the cannister several times the first time vacuuming our house, and I had just used the Bissell the day before. After the first few times, you won't have the empty the cannister nearly as often, I only empty it every few times now. It's the initial vacuuming that fills it up!
What I love about this vacuum:
- It is sooo easy to manuever! I can hold my toddler son on one hip and vaccum with my other hand if I have to! It's really effortless and honestly, fun! I love the ball technology on this vacuum, I don't think I can ever go back to a "normal" vacuum again!
- It REALLY gets your floors clean! I never find anything in my carpet after vaccuming, and my floors look and smell better.
- You can use it on hard floors, too. There's a button to turn off the rotating brush action so that you can vaccum hard floors as well. I LOVE this function, and I use the vacuum to clean my laminate floors often. It saves pushing dirt around with a broom!
- It has edge cleaning, which is wonderful, and eliminates having to pull out the extension tools often. With my Bissell, I was continually pulling out my extension tools to clean the edges of my room and around my couch, etc. With the ball and the edge cleaning combined, I rarely pull out my tools, as the vaccuum gets right up against the wall and gets all my carpet clean.
- The cannister is super easy to empty, just pop off the cannister, hold it into a trash can, and push the release button and shake. I have had to take a paper towel and wipe the inside of the cannister a few times, as dust sometimes builds up inside and the cannister and won't shake out easily.
- It's so much quieter than my other vaccum! My Bissell sounded like a plane coming in for landing, and my toddler son was terrified of it! It took him just a few times to get used to this vaccum and now he "pushes it around the house," pretending to vacuum :0)
- It really feels sturdy. I was nervous paying this much for a vaccum and was terrified it would break, but it's surprisingly solid! It feels like it will last a long time.
What I don't like:
- You can't vacuum up fine powder, like flour or floor cleaning powders. This is frustrating for me, as I was using a deep clean powder on my floors before purchasing this vacuum. Dyson told me, though, that fine powder can clog up the filters, causing problems with sunction and/or shortening the life of the vacuum. So no more deep clean powders for me. I bought a deep cleaner instead, and it works great. Dyson does sell a product called Zorb that you sprinkle on your powder and then vaccum up, but I wasn't happy with the reviews I read of the product. <http://www.amazon.com/Dyson-Zorb-Carpet-Maintenance-Powder/dp/B00062MT88/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1243011548&sr=8-1>
- Dyson doesn't explain how to take the cannister apart to occasionally clean it. I had a lot of dust build up inside the cannister walls and hate seeing it in there. I figured out how to easily take the cannister apart, it's actually made to come apart, but Dyson doesn't tell you how to do it. You have to figure that out on your own.
- For me, the directions on how to assemble the vaccuum were a little frustrating. They don't really explain anything, they only have pictures. I'm a person who puts things together by reading instructions, not looking at pictures, but thankfully, my husband is a picture guy, and we got it together fine.
Bottom line: This vaccum is amazing and I would recommend it to anyone. We've told all our family and friends about it and I'm so glad we spent the extra bucks to get a really quality vacuum. Our house is a lot cleaner now that we've made this purchase!
